Family Place and Hope's Door
For many years, HUG has worked with the Family Place and Hope's Door, among other organizations in the Dallas/Collin County area that reach out and saved abused women. In 1997, HUG made a playroom for the children at Hope's Door. We painted an office, and added shelves, curtains and furniture to creative a bright cheerful playroom. Now the children can play together in a special place. Among the toys purchased were special puppets and other toys for the children to use with play therapists.
Dallas Area Refugees
There are many refugees living in the Dallas area from countries as diverse as Libya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sudan, Kosovo, Albania, and Bosnia. HUG has been actively helping these people, some of whom have spent many years in internment camps for political or religious reasons. By providing furniture, clothes, household goods, food, diapers, and assistance with the transition to life in their new country where freedom is not just a dream but a reality.
Every few months, HUG provides "HUG boxes," things they need to start their new lives after leaving an abusive relationship. Soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, makeup, and toys and books for their children facilitate an easier transition into better life and help start their new lives, thanks to volunteers and supporters of HUG who donate the toiletries and help put them together.
